Cambelle Roberson

Hello! My name is Cambelle Roberson, and I am a rising senior studying Psychology. I am from Greenville, SC. I was previously on the Greenville Liberty Soccer team as well as the Track and Field team here at Furman, but I am now a proud member of the Women's Club Soccer team! I could not be more excited to get to know everyone and to have some incredible experiences together!

I have waited three years to do a MayX experience because I wanted to do one that was really special to me, and this one is exactly that. It has been my lifelong dream to visit Greece, and with the topic being "Know Thyself", it could not be more fitting.

Psychology is all about figuring out others and how they work and what motivates them, but how can I help others if I don't even know myself? I believe that everyone should try and discover their purpose and calling in life, if they can. This is what drives us all, and can help us find a path in life that is right for us.

Recently, I have truly begun to see the amazing opportunities that Furman provides its students, and the people that I have met through this school are incredible, so I am most looking forward to making new friends and experiencing brand new things with such a unique group of people!

The class (and leaders) were given an assignment to be completed before the first day of class. Everyone was given an empty cup, and the instructions were to (i) put several things in that cup that help to describe our identities, and (ii) bring that cup to class on the first day, and use it to introduce ourselves to one another.

A few of the things I plan to include in my cup:

My gold ring that I wear in my right hand every day (I even have a tan line from wearing it so often)- I am putting this in my cup because this is a matching ring to the one that my mom and both of my sisters wear. It always reminds me of home and that I am not alone.

A piece of the net from the soccer goal at my high school- I am putting this in my cup because while I no longer play competitively, soccer has given me more than I ever could have imagined, and has made me who I am today.
