Day 3- Flying to Greece

Hey guys, it's Brantley and Nick. Today we are flying to Greece! We started out the day with a bus ride from Furman to Charlotte, NC. From there we waited for our flight to Philadelphia that ended up getting delayed by an hour because of weather. During this time we walked around the airport and found food. After the flight to Philadelphia, we had to rush to the Athens flight and barely made it on time. The Athens flight was very long and everyone struggled to sleep. We did get to watch interesting movies like the Maze Runner, Paddington, Hunger Games, Wicked, Space Jams, A Quiet Place 2, 10 Things I Hate About You, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Avenger's Infinity War, Grey's Anatomy, Captain America Civil War, and Mama Mia. After making it through customs, we went to get our luggage. We made it out with 20/21 bags accounted for (Tate)! Then we left the airport and drove to the hotel, passing the beautiful scenery and landscape.

To review, over the last two days we have begun the process of learning about each other and ourselves. We discussed what contributes to who we are today (how our experiences have shaped us). We explored this through the Cup Activity, writing a personal Credo, circle activity (what principles we trust, who we trust, and what about ourselves we believe in), and getting lunch with each other. At the back of our journals, we also included a guess as to what our story here will be about. This consisted of three adjectives that describe our anticipated journey.

The second day of class, we learned about Greece. We did drawings to tell different stories of the Greek Gods and found how they related to one another. We also learned stories that explain real world  phenomenons, one of which being Echo and Narcissus. The story is about a nymph, Echo, who distracted Hera from seeing that Zeus filtering with other nymphs. As punishment, Hera cursed Echo forcing her to only repeat the last thing she heard. Echo was wondering in the woods after and stumbled upon Narcissus and fell in love. He didn't like her, so she crawled in a cave and died. This is likely a story that explains how echoing came about. The story goes on as Narcissus finds his reflection in a pond and is captivated to the point he can't look away or leave. He ends up dying looking at his reflection and all that's left is a flower that leans over the pond called a Narcissus.

Some of us have started exploring ourselves through new experiences such as flying overseas and unique activities. We have begun the process of exploring who we are and can't wait to learn more now that we are finally here!

Brantley and Nick signing off!
