David Alabi

Hi everyone! My name is David Alabi, and I’m a First-Gen, Nigerian American, rising junior at Furman University, majoring in Information Technology with a cognitive discipline in Business Entrepreneurship. I’m originally from Columbus, Ohio, and I’m incredibly excited to be part of this year's Know Thyself MayX in Greece.

You might ask, “Why Greece?” My answer would be why not? It’s literally Greece… But more meaningfully, I chose this experience because I believe life is a constant journey of growth and self-discovery. I’m always seeking to uncover more about myself, who I am at my core, what I value, and what truly brings me peace. I see this trip as a much-needed opportunity to reflect, unplug, and engage in thoughtful conversations with other curious minds in a place rich with intellectual and philosophical history. I want to sit in spaces once filled with thinkers, to think deeply, myself, and to find new ways to define purpose, and authenticity. As part of our first-day activity, we’ve been asked to bring three small items to place in a cup, each symbolizing something meaningful about who we are. This was tough (the cup is really small), but so far I’ve chosen a needle and thread – I love to sew and create clothes. For me, creating is essential to being alive. Society often limits us to one-dimensional paths, but I believe in embracing the full spectrum of who we are. Art, design, and expression are just as important as logic and strategy. This needle and thread symbolize that belief.

Outside of our planned itinerary, I’m honestly just looking forward to simply being present. Taking in the beauty of Greece, meeting new people, and allowing myself to dream, heal, and grow in new ways.

To anyone reading this: follow our journey with an open heart and open mind. We’re all in for a hell of a ride.

See you in Greece!
