Hey
everyone! My name is Christina Todd, and I am from Chattanooga,
Tennessee. I’m a rising senior at Furman, majoring in business
administration on the marketing track and minoring in visual strategy. I
work with Furman’s music department as a student sound board engineer,
intern with the Furman Women’s Impact Network, and I am a part of Greek
life on campus. I am so excited to be a part of this group and to be in
Greece this summer!
I
chose to participate in the Know Thyself MayX because I love to travel
and learn about new places, histories, and cultures. I enjoy meeting new
people and learning about their stories as well as what makes us
similar and different. This program will allow us to do so while also
learning about ourselves and reflecting on who we are most
authentically. As someone who struggles to slow down and be fully
present, I think this MayX will help me take a step back from the “busy
culture” I find myself a part of. I think it will also help me to slow
down and live in the moment rather than always jumping to the next thing
on my list. I am so excited to visit a country as beautiful as Greece
and see the historical sites, get to know everyone in our group, and
meet new people when we travel.
In
our last meeting, we were given cup and told to fill it with several
things that help describe our identities. Our task is to bring it with
us to class and use it to introduce ourselves to the group.
In my cup, I included:
1. A paintbrush – I have always loved to paint, draw, sew, make jewelry, and do anything where I can be creative.
2.
A ring – This ring was given to me by my parents for my confirmation.
It is engraved with the phrase “You’ll never walk alone.” To me it
symbolizes my faith and the importance of my family, and that I am never
alone.
3.
A small rock – I found this rock while hiking with my friends last
summer. It makes me think of home and the hiking, swimming, rock
climbing, and other outdoor adventures that I get to do with my friends
and my family.
So excited for this experience!!
